March Newsletter 2002
First off we can say the show prep clinic was a success. There were 16 people here who learned what all is involved in going to and participating in a show. Everything from how to find out where shows are, which classes you night want to go into and what is the judge looking for. We then talked about and practiced how to plan, set goals and create a routine to get ready for the big day. We practiced the patterns and learned how top learn them without the horse then with the horse. The participants started from scratch with the school horses grooming clipping saddling after cleaning saddles and then rode a few of the classes. Quite a bit of time was spent on the art of showmanship and practicing the showmanship patterns. A lot of material was also distributed on how to perfect moves like spins, turns on the forehand and haunches and setup for showmanship. Students also learned how to walk and use wide tracks to make turns around the arena for a successful jump course. Everyone was tired and learned a lot in the two days spent together getting ready for the next show season. Next show planned at Southern Pines Stables is March 23 it will be an enlish/western schooling fun day. Cambie Gulick is the newest rider prep student to complete a level congratulations on your western rider one. Congratulations on your recent purchase Sundance has been purchased by Bruce and Karine Fortier. Our next clinic/camp is March 18 - 22 both English and western classes will be held with the show on the 23rd. In other news Leslie and Karine will be attending the coaches update in Kamloops March 16/17. The next CEF Western coaches evaluation has been set for August 24/25th hosted by the southern pines riding stables. some of our students will be doing this exam. Several students are in the registration stage for this summers working student program and it is looking very exciting. any seriously interested riders looking to becoming coaches or gaining certification for their riding instruction should email ASAP and send a resume including any and all experience or skills in working with horses and horseback riding. Accommodations are available for those students that require it. Southern Pines Riding Stabled was host to 9 girl guides who came to the ranch to learn about horsemanship and test for their horse women badges. which provided for both a fun and interesting day for all. As of January 2003 Equine Canada has made it mandatory that all persons competing will be required to wear protective head gear in all riding disciplines.
