Certification Levels

Becoming a CEF Certified Coach

The National Equestrian Coaching Certification Program was initiated and developed by the Canadian Equestrian Federation in 1977. Its purpose is to develop standards by which those teaching horsemanship and equitation may be graded and recognized in both English and Western disciplines.

Equally important as a goal of the Coaching Program is to produce Canadian coaches capable of preparing horses and riders of international caliber. To meet this challenge, a five level coaching program designed to encourage qualified instructor certification was established in conjunction with the Canadian Coaching  Association. In addition, clinics are held across Canada for candidates who  wish to upgrade their qualifications in their specific field.

Coaching Developing Athletes

Levels 1 through 3 of the National Coaching Certification Program is a training program of approximately 100 hours, designed to certify coaches as competent leaders in  equestrian sport. Levels 1-3 of the National Coaching Certification Program  (NCCP) are composed of three different components: Theory, Technical and   Practical. After completing all three components of Level 1, coaches receive a 'Passport' that officially recognizes their accomplishments as a certified coach at that level.
